Access Consciousness Goddess

Healing hands, mommy?” My son looks at me. “I can do a few minutes. Would you like something different today?” “No, mommy. I want the Bars.” This conversation happened last week, around bedtime, after a busy day.

Access Consciousness Bars, or “Healing Hands,” as it is often called at our house, is a way of allowing us both to wind down and let go of the day’s events.

As I sat at the end of my son’s head, and gently touched some of the 32 points on the head that make up the Bars, his body visibly relaxed. He stilled his movement, slowed his breath, and over the next several minutes, drifted into sleep. This is not uncommon. When I work on clients in my healing practice, many of them relax so deeply that they fall asleep.

The Bars are a form of energetic healing that is practiced all over the world. Each Bar has a name: Healing, Control, Body, Creativity, Money are just a few. When pressed, they discharge the electrical charge of stored thoughts, beliefs and emotions, judgments, and conclusions, bringing more presence and moment-to-moment awareness. This happens in both the practitioner and the recipient; as I run the Bars on my son, I become as relaxed and rejuvenated as he does.

I was introduced to the Bars several years ago when I heard a woman speak about Access Consciousness. She talked about the value of asking questions, explaining that when we ask, it allows us to expand beyond the small mental box of that which we know to be true. As applied parenting, instead of saying, “That was not a good choice, to our child, (or even to ourselves) we could ask, “Did that choice turn out the way you expected it to? What would you do differently next time?”

One of my favorite questions the Bars course taught me is to ask, “What else is possible here?” This question asks as an invitation for the Universe to show us. It is a question that has helped me out of some unpleasant situations, and opened the creative flows as well.

The tools of Access Consciousness are designed to bring more presence into everyday life. According to Access founder Gary Douglas: Consciousness includes everything and judges nothing. It’s the ability to be present in your life in each moment without judgment of yourself or anyone else. It’s the ability to receive everything, to judge nothing, and to allow the entire Universe to be what it is. If you have no judgment of anything, then you get to look at everything for what it is, not for what you want it to be, not for what it ought to be, but just for what it is. From this space you can transform and create everything you desire in life.

Is it possible that by judging ourselves, we limit ourselves? What if by judging our kids, we limit them and their possibilities? Wouldn’t it be more joyous to choose another way? In each moment we have that choice. I’m so grateful to have chosen to learn the Bars. It’s expanded my ease, my happiness, and my moment-to-moment awareness, even sometimes in the midst of chaos! I sometimes forget, and slip back into old patterns of judging & concluding, but more and more, I’m able to live with an attitude of curiosity, of choosing to remain in the question. It’s always a choice. And, in each moment, we have the opportunity to choose anew.
