Dear aunty Tina, I’m due to give birth in two months. Is there anything I can do to prepare my body for birth?
Preparing your body for birth you can practice your Kegels. Kegel exercises consist of contracting and relaxing the muscles of your pelvic floor. This will help improve muscle tone and strengthens the muscles underneath your pelvis which will in turn help you during birth and afterwards.
I would also recommend giving yourself, or asking your partner, to give you 5 minute perineal massages. This massage will help condition the tissue around the vaginal opening and will hopefully help prevent tearing of the perineum during childbirth, hence preventing the need for an episiotomy.
Lastly I would recommend walking everyday for at least a mile. A good walk that will get your cardiovascular system going will help strengthen your legs and help you feel stronger, more capable and energetic for the birth to come.
