Here is another great hike suggestion from www.everydayadventuresmaui.com.
4.5 miles round trip
Directions: Waihe’e Ridge is part of “Na Ala Hele”, the State of Hawaii Trail and Access Program. Just 6.2 miles north of Wailuku on Kahekili Highway ( Highway 340) on the left you’ll see the red Camp Maluhia sign across from the Mendes Ranch. About 1 mile up is a large gravel parking area with a port a potty. The clearly marked trail entrance ( look for the cattle fence and Na Ala Hele sign) leads to a steep climb up a cement slope, which may be the most challenging part of the hike.
The hike has beautiful views of the North Shore while the trail is lined with ferns. Several waterfalls from Makamakaole stream are visible almost all months of the year. Ohia lehua trees, endemic to Hawaii, grow along side the trail in both the red and yellow varieties. This area has a lot of humidity, it rains often and the trail can be very muddy.
