To find Olind Forest you go up Baldwin Avenue in Paia and travel 7 miles to Makawao. Baldwin Avenue becomes Baldwin-Olinda and then Olinda Road (Highway 390). Go 5 miles up from the 4 way stop section in Makawao along the beautiful Olinda Road to the trailhead which you will see on the right (Parking along fence and gate) after the Maui Bird Conservation Center.
The trail is approximately 1.1 miles. This is a great place to go to mix up those beach days (or festive around Christmas- you can find wreath material and pine cones), tall pine trees populate the forest and the trail is very wide with many places to stop, play climb on logs and play in log shelters.
There is an offshoot of the loop trail leading to a lookout point. From the lookout, a switch back trail descends to Waihou Springs; this section is very steep and can be slippery so go with caution or definitely wear a baby carrier with little ones.
