Hike Category: Hikes
The Bamboo Forest on Maui is a beautiful hike that takes you into a bamboo forest that encloses a stream with 4 waterfalls. It is found on the Hana Highway (mile marker 6.5) 20 minutes out of Haiku and five miles further towards Hana from Twin Falls.
You know you are getting really close when you find the very tight hair pin bend (honk your horn to let other cars know that you are coming) shortly after you will see cars parked along the right outside of the Bamboo forest. Park and look for the hole in the fence that leads you into the bamboo forest (you need to take the first two not the third this will lead you to another hike). A baby carrier is advised for this one, if you have little ones under 3, as there is some steep terrain and stepping stones to cross, but this hike, the waterfalls and bamboo are beautiful.
The pools are fun to swim in… it’s cold in the winter months but does warm up a little in the summer and is well worth it and great for everybody’s soul.
This can be an adventure if you climb up the rope to the third waterfall and then the ladder and rope that leads up to the fourth (Emerald Pool). The last pool can be found walking along the stream and then jumping in and swimming the last 100 feet before climbing up 8 feet to find the emerald pool – Maui at her finest.
This spot got discovered by the masses a few years ago, which is why it is being included – gone are the days where you are the only ones there but still as beautiful.
It is amazing how well children sleep after a good hike and swim to a beautiful ionizing waterfall and how refreshed you will feel…
