Happy Trail Rides at Bamboo Kai Farms is nestled just off Hana Highway between East Kuiaha and Ulumala. For those living Upcountry it is a sweet local gem and for those more central, south and west, it is a treat worth the ride to the jungle side.
Bamboo Kai Farms is family owned and operated, specializing in keiki pony rides and farm visits. The pony rides include a half mile led ride on their private happy trail with ocean and Hana Highway vistas. Keiki under 60lb get to ride the miniature horses, while 60lbs and over get to straddle a small horse. Bullseye, Flicka and Pumkin are happy to accommodate. Pony rides cost $45.
Many visitors to the farm enjoy seeing their little ones revel in the interaction with the farm animals. Here they get to hold and feed chickens, aka the fluffbottom sisters, feed Bubba and Lucy and their muscovy family, pet Butters and Nibbles, the farm’s two sweet New Zealand bunnies, groom the horses while they are not on the trails, and explore and make-believe play in their Paniolo Playtown. Farm tours are $5.
Every Friday morning, weather permitting, Bamboo Kai Farms hosts a Mommy and Me Meetup, 10am-11:30am. This is a great venue for us to socialize with each other while our keiki delight in the farm. Mommy and Me is open to all and is $5 per person. Friday afternoons they offer a Preschool Farm Club, 1pm-3pm where children ages 2-5 learn about animal care, enjoy garden projects, create crafts from nature and engage in imaginative play. Reservations are required for the afternoon. The Farm Club is $15 per child per session with an accompanying adult and $25 for drop off service.
Bamboo Kai Farms are also getting a great representation for their Birthday and Private parties, which include a quarter mile led trail ride on a pony or horse, feeding and petting the farm animals and use of their Paniolo Playtown and picnic area. Two hours up to 6 children is $175, while three hours up to 10 children is $275.
During school breaks the farm also hosts seasonal camps for ages 4-10 years. Here your keiki gets to care and feed the animals, ride the horses and hike in nature, weather permitting. After lunch the children get to practice something different each day: archery, air riffle and other various sports and then finish up the day with swimming, crafts or karaoke! Each session (week) is $150 per child.
Bamboo Kai Farms are open Monday – Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday 10am-1pm and closed to the public on Sundays. Tours and trail rides are by appointment only. You can call 868-2070, email them at firstname.lastname@example.org or check them out at www.mauihappytrailrides.com for more info. Enjoy!
