Alexander Dance Academy

Alexander Academy of Performing Arts is a donation-based dance studio and performing company that offers quality instruction to the Maui community.

Their faculty members love the art and discipline of dance and make every effort for their students, children and adults, to find their own appreciation of movement. The teachers have professional experience and excellent training and knowledge and have the passion to teach keeping dance fun.

Registration is open year-round; classes are split into the Fall/Winter/Spring session and Summer session.

Classes for ages 2-9 years include:

Mommy & Me (2-3 years): Class focuses on socialization, basic class structure, developmental motor skills in dance and basic tumbling, props, music, creative movement and obstacle courses.  this class will be on the schedule when we have enough interest.

Preballet (3- 5.5 years): Recommended for 1st and 2nd year dancers. Class focuses on basic ballet vocabulary and positions, song and dance, basic tumbling, musicality, creative movment, dance games, developmental gross motor skills within a nurturing, fun environment.

Elementary 1 Ballet (6-9 years): Class focuses on basic ballet vocabulary and positions, song and dance, musicality, creative movement, dance games, developmental skills within a nurturing, fun environment.

Elementary 2 Ballet (7-10 years): Ballet technique is introduced with a fun creative curriculum. This is for the experienced young dancer, or the new older dancer.  Requirement is 2 classes per week recommended.  1 class a week may be permitted for the 9-10 year old.

Jazz: Focuses on classical jazz technique, using dynamic pop music and also incorporates hip hop, contemporary or musical theater styles.

Jazz 1 is for ages 7-10

Jazz 2 is appropriate for ages 11-adult

Jazz 3 is by teacher placement

Contemporary: This class used modern techniques. The students will be encouraged to push new boundaries, discover versatility, and minimize tension in the search for clarity and fluidity. This class has a ballet requirement.

Contemporary 1 is for level Ballet 1/2/3

Contemporary 3/4 is by teacher placement.

Hip hop funk: This class incorporates hip hop, funk and jazz techniques.  Boys encouraged, girls too!
