mama time for yourself

When I was pregnant, my mom told me that motherhood was like being in a three-ring circus. Fast-forward two years and here I am, juggling balls while balancing on a tightrope with my clown shoes on. Every day holds new challenges, a slew of questions, a lot of laughter and definitely a few tears. Being a mom is tough work! Even if you see someone making it look easy, it’s not.

A new year is a great time for reflection, resolutions, ending bad habits and beginning new, healthy ones. So I suggest begin a new healthy habit this year by carving out some ‘mama time’. A little bit of mama time goes a long way! It will help you feel happy, replenished and ready to take on those never-ending to do lists! A happy mom generally makes for a happy family, and nothing is more important to us than a happy family!

Yes, it is near impossible to find, but even a few minutes a day can reduce your stress level and change your life for the better. I know it’s easier said than done, but it is so very important to replenish, and somehow we’ve gotta’ try and make it happen!

Some ideas to incorporate mama time are; try to wake up a half hour earlier a few days a week and go outside for a walk or jog around the block. Breathe in that fresh, morning air. Or if you have a baby, take baby with you all bundled up in the stroller. If you’re busy at work, instead of running errands on your break, go for a 15 minute swim at the beach or walk around the neighborhood and listen to music. Just escape the hustle and bustle for a moment and be with yourself. Take the time to write or read. Maybe your mama time can only come once a month, but you can sneak away for a couple hours. Go get a massage at the local massage school, or if you need to stay near home take advantage of Mommytime Maui ( as they will come to your home and pamper you while you hide out in your favorite room.

But no matter what, don’t give up this year! Give in! Give in to a long bath, pedicure, facial, a book, an extended walk on the beach, to ALONE time. After a quick trip to the store when dad is watching the kids, take an extra 10 minutes to get a tea and just sit outside and relax, do nothing but sit and sip! Give yourself those little somethings to look forward to. Make it all about you once in a while. Just breathe and Relax, Revive, Refresh! You deserve it! And your body, mind and soul will thank you.
