My little boys love to rough and tumble, climb and jump, run and roll – so gymnastics was the perfect fit. Gymnastics has so many benefits for the boys, now and in the future, as it will help them with their surfing, windsurfing, and breaking out those moves on the dance floor. Right now however, it does wonders with their development. Gymnastics helps strengthen their bodies and hand / eye coordination. It also helps them with their balance, flexibility, and growing strong healthy bones as a lot of the activities are weight bearing.
Not only is it great for their physical development, it is also reported to be great for their cognitive development. Gymnastics has been directly attributed to developing neurological pathways in students, and promoting reading readiness. Children who have participated in movement education activities such as gymnastics have reported longer attention spans, increased communication skills, general problem solving skills, and improved self-esteem…yeah!
For me it also helped with my boys social and listening skills. It was great to see a bunch of little children take turns, co-operate, and have fun. It was also great to see them take instruction and follow directions from someone other than me, and develop a teacher student relationship early on in life. Gymnastics is also a good outlet for them to get their ya-yas out and channel all that rough and tumble energy. I am blown away how a 5 year old can do full flips on a trampoline and hand spring himself all over the coach. I am also blown away by how much stronger he gets as the months go by.
Gymnastics is perhaps one of the most comprehensive “lifestyle exercise programs” available to children, incorporating strength, flexibility, speed, balance, coordination, power, and discipline. Find a Gymnastics academy near you and enjoy the benefits of gymnastics and watching your child blossom. We highly recommend Diane’s Gymnastic Academy in Kahului.
