Maui Surfer Girl

What better experience can you give your teenage daughter, than a week exploring Maui with other girls, learning how to surf, and becoming a more confident, independent young woman? Maui Surfer Girls has been running summer camps for girls ages 12-17 for over fifteen years! Their camp is dedicated to empowering girls through water sports and team-building adventures. The all-inclusive camp includes oceanfront accommodations at Camp Olowalu, professional surf coaching, a quiver of surfboards, three healthy meals a day, various activities around the island, and a lifetime of friends and memories.

They strongly believe that with healthy role models, girls can be their best and achieve their goals. The mentorship element of their program provides girls with one-on-one opportunities to bond with the instructors. The 3:1 camper to instructor ratio is what sets this camp from any other. The one and two week camps are running June and July 2016, but, book up fast so now is a good time to register. There are also scholarships available through the Kelea Foundation. To learn more please contact Maui Surfer Girls.

Now if this sounds like something that YOU would love to do (we’re looking at you, Mama!), Maui Surfer Girls is also running a camp for women ages 18 and up in June. The women’s camp is designed as a ‘return to camp’ experience for those 18 and over. Open to beginners and up, the professional surf coaching team will help campers progress their skills and gain confidence on the water. The camp is designed similar to the girls camp, but with more flexibility in the schedule, and more focus on relaxation and rejuvenation. Besides surfing, campers will have the option of participating in additional activities that include hiking, yoga and massage. And for campers 21 and over, beer and wine!

Throughout the rest of the year, Maui Surfer Girls also teaches surf lessons, specializing in children, women, small groups and families. While most of their instructors are women, they do have a couple male instructors. And yes! They teach guys too!

Maui Surfer Girls is the brainchild of Dustin Tester. Raised on Maui, Dustin’s dad taught her how to surf when she was seven. She’s been a multi-sport water athlete ever since. Dustin has been a competitive skim boarder, surfer, outrigger paddler, and enjoyed her time in North Carolina whitewater kayaking and rock climbing. She’s taught hundreds of students about the stoke of surfing, and living aloha. Always adding to her bucket list, Dustin has skydived, tow surfed Jaws, written a book, surfed in Africa with the elephants, taught Cher how to surf, and recently completed an Ironman.
