Public Comment Sought on the 2015–2016 HC&S Agricultural Cane Burning Permit: Be Heard!
In response to the huge turnout at the community meeting held on June 25th and the extensive media attention that focusing on sugarcane burning, the Hawai’i State Department of Health (DoH) has opened a public comment period for the current (already in effect) agricultural cane burn permit they issued to HC&S.
There is much that could be said about this, but for now, instead of focusing on the department’s failings, let’s celebrate! It is because of your involvement, we—finally—have the department’s attention. This is a victory! It’s because you have chosen to speak up. Congratulations!
Now that we have the DoH’s attention, let’s keep it! During the next few weeks you have the opportunity to submit your thoughts on the cane burning permit to the DoH. Comments MUST be in writing and MUST be postmarked by August 29, 2015.
