Maui Science Center

I am so excited to share about a group of dedicated volunteers who are working to establish Maui’s very own Science Center – a dynamic interactive destination, where learners of all ages can explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) concepts through discovery, fun, interactive exhibits, hands-on activities and engaging programs!

Maui Science Center (MSC) is at the very early stage of it’s development, yet, thanks to our passionate team the project is progressing rapidly and receiving support and encouragement from the Maui community, including Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa. In March we hosted a couple of our initial events, first at the Math Matters competition (by providing hands-on activities to elementary grade students), and later at TEDxYouth event at Seabury Hall, with several interactive stations that were presented during the event’s break.

While the team is in search of our initial physical location the Science Center on Wheels will be bringing exciting events and educational programs to Maui schools, libraries and community events beginning this fall. Local engineers and craftsmen are volunteering their time and skills to build the interactive exhibits. Thank you to Marmac Ace Hardware and our local Home Depot who offered their support with building material.

On August 15th MSC will be hosting Maui’s first Science Carnival – an all day outdoor event. Maui residents and visitors will get to experience our first exhibits, participate in hands-on science activities and enjoy science shows and live entertainment. Location and details will be announced on our website in July. Boeing Corporation is the main sponsor of the event. Before the Science Carnival Flatbread Company in Paia is helping organize a benefit event on July 21 – Science Night Out. Maui Science Center team will be bringing our fun games and brain teasers for the guests, along with an amazing selection of silent auction items generously donated by local businesses.

The Maui Science Center is a non-profit organization and our mission is to encourage enduring curiosity and exploration of the surrounding environment by providing innovative, educational and entertaining hands-on/ minds-on science and technology experiences to lifelong learners regardless of their age. Our goal is to become a leading self-sustained destination, but right now we 100% rely on donations, sponsorship and help of volunteers. This will be a place for our community built BY the community. To support our mission and for information on upcoming events we invite you to visit our website MauiScienceCenter.com and join us on Facebook.com/MauiScienceCenter.
