“We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.” – Albert Einstein
Good ol’ Einstein, trust him to come up with such great logic. This thing we call life can throw all kinds of situations and humdingers right at us. We can choose to accept things the way they are, we can keep doing the same thing and keep getting the same results or we can change our way of thinking and start doing things in different ways.
We can apply this to ourselves, the way we parent and how we relate to others and our community. We don’t have to accept things the way they are!
For example, I know countless women who just accept that they can’t jump on a trampoline anymore after having kids (see page 12). But, it doesn’t have to be this way!
Another example, the political climate and who is making the major decisions on the federal, state and local level has huge impacts on us ALL. After working at the County Council for the last 5 months my jaw has hit the floor on more than a few occasions. I have witnessed misogyny, ill-informed ideas spear-heading important decisions and blind acceptance of antiquated, inefficient and self-serving ways. It doesn’t have to be this way!
With historically so few people going to the polls (see page 7), if we stepped up in numbers and voted we could easily tip the scales and create real change towards affordable housing, sustainable growth, managed tourism, cultural respect, clean oceans and better roads!
We can redefine our roles (see page 28)… right on Danny! And if we are not happy with our options we can create our own solutions (see page 23) or share solutions with others (see page 19). Remember it doesn’t have to be this way!
At summertime the sun is at its highest. It is the perfect time to shine the light on things that are not working. It is time to find new solutions. It is time to take that class, try that new idea, register to vote. Know what you want and know how to get it (see page 24) and change your circumstances if you are not happy with where you are at. If enough of us forge forward with this attitude there will be no stopping us and a brighter future can be had by all!
Happy Father’s Day!
