Now that November is upon us, the holiday hustle and bustle will soon be in full swing. It’s so easy to go overboard with so many temptations of holiday treats, sugars and feasts. Give yourself and your family the gift of planning in advance, by incorporating two simple strategies. These strategies help me and my family stay on track to have the healthiest holiday season ever!
Step one in our holiday eating plan: Hold to the number one truism in holiday eating… Everything in moderation… even moderation :-).
Step two: Follow the kids dream to become a super hero. Every child wants to have superhuman powers. Well our holiday advice to getting super human powers is by using the P.O.W.R.S of conscious food choices.
Plant or animal
Organic or conventional
Whole or fragmented
Raw or processed
Simple or complex
Every time we purchase a food item or decide to eat a meal we consciously (or unconsciously) try and eat based on these 5 choices. Try asking yourself these questions before you eat next:
Is this plant or animal based?
Was this grown organicically?
Is this food whole or fragmented e.g., banana v’s cookie, seaweed v’s chips, whole nuts v’s snickers?
Is it raw (still in its original state keeping its enzymes, vitamins, and phytonutrients intact), or has it been processed or cooked out?
Is it simple, containing less than 5 main ingredients?
With these two suggestions you and your family will be long on the way toward holiday success by keeping yourselves healthy and well nourished. For what is good for the body is good for the Soul.
